Environment Day
Event held on : Sunday, November 22, 2009

Environment Day On Environment Day, children will be taking part in a number of classroom based activities to help raise awareness of environmental issues, including contributing towards a whole school mural with an environmental theme. Children are encouraged to wear green clothing to school, or a green accessory such as a badge or hair-band, to signify the event. We are also asking you to support the day by helping your child with the activities below. Environmental pledge Please discuss with your child ways that they can help to protect the environment and save resources, for example, switching the tap off when cleaning their teeth or closing doors so that the AC doesn?t have to work so hard. Then ask your child to think of a pledge they could make to protect the environment and help them to write this, in pen, on one sheet of a regular sized magazine page that is no longer in use. Alternatively use a piece of brightly coloured paper that has been previously used and measures approximately 30cm x 20cm. Ask your child to bring the ?pledge? to school on Environment Day so that a chain can be made to hang up around the school and show our commitment to protecting the environment. Waste free snack! As a further commitment to the environment, we are asking parents to help the school reduce the amount of waste that is generated at snack time by challenging you to put together a ?waste free snack!? This is a snack that has no, or very little, packaging that needs to be put in the dustbin. The challenge has been set and the dustbins will be monitored on Environmental Day to see which classes are eco friendly and which are eco foes! The hope is that this activity will help both children and parents to consider the amount of waste we produce and begin to reduce this, where possible. We thank you in advance for your support of this school project and also on behalf of our wonderful planet!
